Tony Mangum
Tony Mangum has served at Bible Baptist Tabernacle since 1997. Brother Tony was saved in January 1990. Later that year, he surrendered to the call to preach the gospel. In 1997, God answered a prayer for which he had praying for many years by opening the door for him to assist Pastor Leonard as the associate pastor.
He loves seeing the lives of people transformed for Christ. His favorite part about serving at BBT specifically is serving under Pastor Leonard and learning from him as he loves people and shows an inspirational passion for the Lord. His greatest desire is to see God work in a mighty way.
Favorite Bible Verse: Isaiah 64:4
“For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.”
Scott Couick
Scott Couick has been in full-time service at BBT since 2000. He was saved in 1993 sitting on his mother-in-law's living room sofa. With a true servant’s heart, he assists Pastor Leonard in several ministries. He currently does a wonderful job as he oversees our senior citizen's ministry and is actively involved in the maintenance of the facilities, visitation, and many other areas of service.
No matter the hour or the day of the week, when someone needs an extra set of hands, Brother Scott is always willing to help. His favorite part about serving at BBT is knowing that what he does here has eternal value. He enjoys trying to help lift the burdens of others and help people get closer to Jesus Christ.
Favorite Bible Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:21
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Stephen Leonard
Stephen Leonard has served as the Singles’ Sunday School class teacher since 2007 and as Tabernacle Christian School’s athletic director since 1991. Saved as a teenager in 1985, he started working in the janitorial and maintenance areas at BBT before becoming a coach at TCS six years later. His favorite part about serving in the ministry is encouraging the younger members of BBT to live out Philippians 4:8 and see life as a wonderful opportunity for eternal treasures. His desire for the young people within his ministries is to see them continue in Christian education and serve Christ wherever He may lead them.
Favorite Bible Verse: Micah 7:18
““Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.”
Gary and Beverly Griffin
Gary and Beverly Griffin were called to serve as BBT’s youth leaders and teen Sunday school teachers in 2021. Already active in several ministries, such as VBS, church music, and fellowship preparation, this couple has taken to the teen ministry with enthusiasm and knowledge stemming from years of serving at BBT since 2001. Beverly also leads several ladies’ and children’s ministries and provides encouragement to the ladies in our church with articles in the church bulletin’s “Ladies Corner.”
Gary and Beverly share a strong desire to serve the Lord in whatever ministry He sees fit to put in their hands. Tabernacle has been a major influence in their lives even before they joined the ministry with Gary’s father serving at BBT before becoming a full-time pastor in Wilmington and Beverly’s family being saved through the church’s faithful ministry. Gary and Beverly view their service at BBT not only as a way to influence people for Christ, but also as a way to give back to the church that has been a beacon of hope in both their lives.
Gary’s Favorite Bible Verse: James 1:25
“But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
Beverly’s Favorite Bible Verse: Psalm 34:10
“The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.”
Terry and Debbie Stevens
Terry and Debbie Stevens have served as BBT’s Treasured Saints ministry leaders since 2005. Caring for members of BBT that are over 60 years old, this couple truly does treasure the members of their ministry. Terry’s favorite part about serving the Treasured Saints is seeing the smiles on their faces when he does something for them. He loves caring for members that are sometimes forgotten in the bustle of church ministry and considers it an honor to bring joy to them.
Debbie’s favorite part about working in the ministry is getting to know each member and hearing their stories about what God has done for them. She loves learning about what God has accomplished in their past and what He continues to do in their present.
Terry and Debbie share a deep passion for their ministry and take great joy in planning events that give members the chance to do something they otherwise might not have the opportunity to do. This caring, dedicated couple serves with the personal reminder that everyone grows old and deserves to be treated with the love of Christ and the joy of fellowship with other believers.
Terry’s Favorite Bible Verse: Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Debbie’s Favorite Bible Verses: Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.”
